Countries of Oceans and Vulcanoes
Hi Everybody from Honduras!
After finally leaving Costa Rica (we endured the worst months of the rainy season in Nosara), we headed for beautifull Nicaragua. San Juan del Sur want to interesting so we headed North to Playa Maderas, one of Nicas prime Surfbeaches, again on terribly shitty roads... After rivercrossings we finally got to the lonely place on the beach with some very nice waves. Fixing VBs board and then off we went! Playa Maderas is definitely a nice place to get stuck at, great waves, very relaxing but not boring because of all the crazy people (like Dave in its hideout). Well, VB and I hyad to take off, but Hendrick got stuck there for a few more days! We took off for some City Life in Granada, but before we got there we had to cross that river again and our little Land Rover didnt like that too much. We had that problem before ion Costa Rica, so we werent too worried. We got a tow to San Juan from a very nice guy, who we saw on the freeway a few days later on the way to Managua. By the time we got there, our motor was almost dry again and ready to run! So off to Granada! It was so nice to be out of Costa Rica where all the towns look pretty much the same ugly way. We also enjoyed one other highlight of Nicaragua, its vulcanoes, in our case the beautiful Laguna de Apoyo, where we did some kayaking. The next day was of to Leon, another grand old city. There we departed of one of our boards, naturally not the one we intended to sell. So now, VB has no board! After 3 daysin the ciry we got tired of it already so we looked around for something nice to do *maybe a beach with some surf?) and were rewarded with close by Las Penitas! Great waves, lots of nice people and good food! There I learned, that you can easily repair an epoxy surfboard with polyester resin, as long as the foam is not exposed to the resin (which is pretty ugly as I experienced in Nosara, where I burned a fist sized hole through my epoxy foam...), so fixed is the great but by now very shabby white board! During the few days in Las Penitas our confidence in a smooth boarder crossing rose immensly so instead of crossing to Honduras on Thursday to meet Marcus on Monday, we delayed it first to Friday, then to sunday and finally to Monday morning. I guess the nice atmosphere of Las Penitas had something to do with that!
Anyways, we made it to Tegucigalpa right on time to pick up Marcus and continued our trip as a triple again. So off we were to the beautifull bay island Utila (en memoriam Bruno and Sanny) of Honduras. After we stored our car securely (I can now say since we got it back in one piece, but at the time on Utila I had my doubts) and a pretty rough ferry ride, we spent 5 days diving and enjoying island life. Unforunately Marcus had problems with his ear so he missed out on the diving. Right now we are back in the mountains, looked at the famous Mayan Copan Ruinas and are now chilling in Gracias. For a change its really nice to wear a sweater again. Our next destination are the (hopefully) beautifull beaches of El Salvador - surprise - which are famous for their surf!
As you can see, we are still having a great time (somehow that doesnt get boring), although we naturally miss you all lots!
Take care and C U all soon
